On this Day, Mardi Gras 2026

On this day, kids were loaded into strollers and Red Flyer wagons.

A sign warned that “1 out of 3 Moonpies will not survive this parade," and gilded pig bladders were carried down Dauphin Street.

A child was unsure of Sasquatch.

New parade jeans took four days to paint.

Cards were played.

Doughnuts and coffee were delivered by a dad.

An empty bottle of Don Julio tequila was left on Water Street.

Kermit came to Fat Tuesday. “I caught him ten years ago, and he’s come to every Mardi Gras since. He’s a trouper.”

“Super Freak,” “Boom Boom Boom,” and “Fat Bottom Girls” played from opposite corners of Bienville Square; “Wondering Why” played down the street.

Pickled okra and asparagus were placed in Bloody Marys as chicken legs were grilled from the back of a pickup truck.

The fatted calf arrived.

The Mollies of Mobile brought joy to all.

A trailer hitch was wrapped in beads.

All on this day.
