On this Day in Birmingham
On this day, flip phones and BlackBerrys hung from a power pole.
A couple of boxes of beads still sat on a wood float from the Mystic Knights of Poulet parade.
Parking was reserved for filming: NYPD cruisers idled on the set, blue lights flashing
Folded blankets and belongings were tucked behind bushes.
Charlie Crockett’s Dollar-A-Day album posters peeled from a wall.
Kettlebells were carried down one sidewalk.
A lighting truss for Clint Black’s show went down another.
Plywood covered the windows of a barbershop on historic 4th Avenue.
“A fool broke the windows.”
A downtown CAP ambassador said,
“Have a blessed morning,”
as he picked up wing bones from the sidewalk.
His wristband read:
“Do not be anxious about anything…”
A man on a smoke break said,
“I tried retiring once and realized there was already a queen in our house with no room for a king.
I went back to work.
That’s how we’ve been married 50 years.”
There were conversations in a hotel elevator:
“I only have 54 rooms today. Whooo. That’s easy. Yesterday, it was 104.”
And, “Have you heard Jason Isbell's song 'Flagship?' I think he sings about this hotel.”
A note was left on the wrong car:
“Hey Brian!! Did you see Elvis?”
All on this day.
