On This Day
May 3, 2025
On this day, a server poured wine with seven pens in her pocket. She said you can never have too many.
Peaches and snapdragons grew by a chicken coop. A sow lay on her side–eyes closed and making urnf, urnf, urnf noises–as she fed her five piglets. A dog sat in the back of a truck while stickers of sasquatch shooting the bird were on a truck close by.
There were tattoos. A baby's foot on the left soldier of a young woman. The words "I am enough" with a dandelion tattooed on a forearm was a 40th birthday gift to herself. The seeds blowing off the dandelion are what she let go; the remainders are the values she holds close.
Clothes hung from lines between trees. There was a revival at a Baptist church.
Friends and family yelled names at a college graduation. A dad face-timed the ceremony to a younger sister eating spaghettios as she watched. A college president said "Mom and Dad, you did good." Tassels were moved from the right to the left of mortarboard hats. One was decorated in pink and roses with the words "Constant as the stars above."
All on this day.
