On This Day

On this day, raindrops dripped off bridges. A sign at the Tombigbee River warned to "Swim at your own risk."

Aldi bags were used as luggage for women entering a motel room, and a garbage bag was used as a raincoat as a barefoot man asked for money at an intersection.

A clown juggled yellow pins, and a woman danced to the band at the Market Street Festival. Faces were painted like tigers, unicorn and batman

Vermont maple syrup cans hung on a boat propeller at an antique store. Side two of "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line" was on the record player, and a creepy blue-eyed doll wearing blue pajamas was on a chair. A man looked for a piggy bank to replace the one he broke. Years ago, he “Grabbed his wife's piggy bank and pulled the head right off that thing. Money went everywhere." The store owner told him that everything was half-off while his dog barked.

The store also had a box of cards with sayings and memories once given as a Mother's Day gift. The first one said, "One of my favorite memories was seeing Helen Hayes in "Arsenic and Old Lace" in Chicago.

There was a bumper sticker: "Gary Numan is here in my car."

A school mascot stuck her head in an ice machine to cool off at a baseball game. A diving catch saved a run and ended an inning, then "John Deere Green" played at the top of the sixth. A team won a game the week after its coach was fired.

All on this day.
